Rebecca Degenhardt has been creating art since childhood and began to pursue art professionally in 2000 after attending college for studio art and art History at Meredith College. She also holds a degree in business and accounting from Wittenberg University. Prior to her formal art education, she studied under artist Jacob Cooley. Her work is very diverse and she uses a variety of mediums, but oil is her preferred medium.
She has shown in national and international competitive exhibits and has been selected by jurors such as Juror Clare Bell, formerly Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York City. Rebecca has earned numerous awards, as well as a juror’s choice award from Juror Alison Gass, Former curator of Painting and Sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her works are included in private and commercial collections, including the Cell in New York City. Additionally, she has earned commissions from the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York City and others. She has been cited in publications world-wide.
Rebecca is academically motivated, leaving the interpretation of her work open to the viewer. Her approach to Color and Perspective grasp attention, while creating energy and dissonance through visual weight and interactions between the elements within the image.
